Running a business is like a roller coaster - I think this analogy is so true!
How do you deal with times when things don't seem to be going right? Let's share our tips with each other.

I guess I just have a "never give up attitude". I've come to expect the bad times but have learned that if you just ride it out, it always gets better. If something does not improve on its own, then I know I need to revamp my strategy. I am the type of person who worries about every little detail- I'm a perfectionist, so I hate making mistakes! Although I have the right attitude about having faith in my ability and seeing the long-term goal, I have to confess that I generally walk around with a little knot of anxiety in the pit of my stomach.

First I find chocolate.

Then things don't seem quite so bad.

Ok, that doesn't always work. But it's worth trying. LOL

I try to "step back" mentally from the current situation and detach myself emotionally. Then I try to consider how best to reroute the current path to make it all fit into my master goals.

Sometimes it's just easier to try to look at things from an outsiders point of view in order to figure out what the correct step to take next is.

Oh I totally support the chocolate idea - the darker the better!

I find that it helps to step back and put things in priority and perspective, which always means my kids and my husband are at the top of the list. Then, whatever the day's trauma, it always seems less overwhelming!

And, (I put this in my 101 Tips in my book) can't we ALL take a second, close our eyes, and remember the sweet smell of our 'new baby?' THAT's why we do what we do, isn't it? And, THAT's all that really matters!

I reach out to my support system... right after I eat a piece of chocolate ;)

I have built a community around me of close friends and colleagues who can relate to running a business and the challenges it can create. When something goes into unexpected territory, I can reach out to someone and talk about it.

It really helps to be able to have an outside perspective on the situation and gain new ideas.
