I am curious about the group members here -- do you generate enough income from your business for your family's financial needs or do you also work on the site at a regular job/freelance?

As of right now, I work PT at home because I am still in Corp. America. My PT network marketing business is a great supplemental income. However, the goal is to fire Corporate America within the next couple of years. WHOHOOO!

I work from 8a-5p at home as a Sales Rep for a Magnet co. that is my main source of income and at night once I put the little one to bed I am working at my own jewelry business. I am Packing orders and Promoting. Hopefully my jewelry co. will be at a point were I can just be working at that.

My hubby Tim and I are both home full time thanks to our Melaleuca business. Understand that I'm VERY thankful, but it's kind of sad too that we're earning 2-3 times more than I did as a Charge Nurse working LONG 12-14 hour shifts and never seeing my family... and building / mentoring online I can do it AROUND my family time and in my PJ's!

My French teaching business brings in enough to make ends meet, working about 10 hours a week in the evenings when hubby comes home from work to be with the kids. That said, we have to live *frugally* to make this work! No extras, no nothing!

This is why I recently took on a second part-time work at home job as a childcare coordinator for an au pair agency. This way we can afford to do things like take a vacation! I had kind of maxed out my "no paying for childcare while I teach" hours, and if I had increased my roster by taking on daytime students, by the time I paid for childcare, the extra hours wouldn't bring in a whole lot. So, the idea of supplementing my income with a job that I could feasibly perform during nap time without even leaving the house was quite attractive.

I earn more than enough to keep us going here in Guatemala, but if I were to move back to Canada, we would be just scraping by. My income is definitely growing, though, so hopefully at some point we will be able to live anywhere we want.

Regular job to keep the money coming, but my side business is a great supplement, and great plan B

Both my business are really just beginning, so no, I don't make enough to support a puppy right now. But if I can put more energy into I think I could. I don't even have business cards. So I hope within the next year to have a different story! As for little energy things seem to be going well.

I just started my business in March 2008. I am getting down to the "money is running out" stage and getting a little scared. I am struggling with the balance between passions for my business vs. family demands ($). So, I soon may be in the "looking for supplemental income" category. But, how do I get a supplemental job and still devote all the time I need to getting my business off the ground. Aaugh!

Would welcome your insight!

BecciH, ;

I think it's important to take action steps consistently. Yes, there may need to be some sacrifices here and there. But a home business allows flexibility. When I began my Network Marketing business, my children were ages 1,3 and 9 and I had a FT demanding Corporate America job. Ah, it was trying at times, but I kept my focus on the positive instead of the challenges.

I know you mentioned the money is running out. Does your business have a retailing option? In the beginning it's extremely important to put a portion of your earnings right back into your business. And that never stops, but it is more difficult to do when you first start up.

Surround yourself with positive like-minded people and stay away from the nay-sayers.
