How organized are you about keeping all your finances/accounting in order?

The end of the year is nearing, how are all of you handling the accounting part of your freelance business? Do you go to see your accountant in person? Are you hyper organized with your financial records, payments, etc? Share!Flag as inappropriate Posted by Nataly on 4th December 2007

Last year was the first year that I was self employed, and I was very intimidated by all the tax shtuff...but it turned out that I was able to do it all myself. It did take a few calls to my Mom though (she has done their taxes for years). I wouldn't say I'm hyper organized but I do keep everything...my file cabinet could use a nice purge.Flag as inappropriate Posted by mamajama on 4th December 2007

I do a decent job of keeping it all together and in the past it wasn't so difficult. This year, though, I'm concerned about getting it all right. I've always done our taxes, hubby is anal about filing and keeping everything organized, and together we make it through. I don't know if I can handle the stress of it this year of if it's even worth it. One of my yoga students is a CPA and we've been bartering yoga for accounting. It makes us both happy and keeps us both sane!!Flag as inappropriate Posted by Mandy Nelson - Dandysound on 5th December 2007

I keep track of my general bookkeeping using quickbooks each month (well...at least I try to keep it updated regularly). Then I just submit the copies to my accountant and she takes it from there. I like using an accountant because she always finds more things for me to write off than I would have thought of.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Meri Raffetto RD, LDN on 11th December 2007
