I am trying something new out. I happened across a cool blog post (at about.com) yesterday and commented. A couple of hours later I was e-mailed by the woman who had written the post. She said that she really liked my blog and suggested that I apply for one of the topics to become a guide (how flattering). So last night we e-mailed back and forth and she gave me some absolutely stellar advice, as well as some great critiques on my work. I'm feeling really grateful...even if the about.com thing doesn't pan out. So, if you're game, let's talk about it. What are your experiences with getting freelance writing gigs? And what experience do you have with talking to and working with other writers?

I've always found other writers to be very generous with their time and advice. The writers I've met through online and offline groups become a community of support - I remain a member of several online groups that I signed up for years ago even though I'm not doing freelance the traditional way.
