How often do you ACTUALLY cook?

I always start out the week very ambitiously planning to cook for every dinner. But inevitably mac & cheese, frozen pizza or Chinese takeout slip in there 2-3 times a week.Flag as inappropriate Posted by mamajama on 13th September 2007

Since we have a few food allergies and intolerances to deal with, I end up cooking nearly every day. I try to cook several things on the weekends and then freeze them, or make a huge amount of something (like a roast) and then re-purpose it later in the week. But I'd say I cook about 5 days a week (my husband usually cooks the other one or two).
Some of the cooking is easy stuff, though -- frozen ravioli (for those who can eat it) with butter and garlic and fresh basil, pasta (rice pasta or regular) with sauce made in advance and pulled out of the freezer, steak fajitas (easier than it sounds... warm the tortillas, slice the steak into thin strips, stir fry onions and bell pepers and steak, serve with sour cream and salsa), "everything fried rice" (leftover rice stirfried with a sweet soy sauce and bits of everything leftover in the fridge) or "breakfast for dinner" of pancakes and bacon or scrambled eggs and toast (I feel like I'm cheating, somehow, when I do this, but the kids think it's great).
Hey, Mac & Cheese still counts as cooking!

I generally cook every day! My mother is on a renial diet. I don't like the fact that more and more people with who knows what. I know how clean my kitchen is, I know who has touched my food and I am not such a bad cook.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Kim Begnaud on 8th November 2007

I cook at least 6 nights a week, plus we do hot breakfast 3-4 times a week. We ate out or ordered in more when I was pregnant, because the smell of the food cooking made me sick and then I couldn't eat it. Now I don't have that excuse anymore, and we have twice as many diapers to buy, so I feel like it's my job to keep us on budget by making sure we have meals at home.Flag as inappropriate Posted by nicu101 on 9th November 2007
