I'm a new Mom trying to juggle working at home and having a young baby. In the past year and a half I have gotten married, graduated college, and had a baby. I am trying to build up a business as a spanish/english translator. My husband is a teacher...so we get by, but we could always use more money. I also want to continue to keep my skills sharp, because I know I'm not going to want to stay home forever. I'm interested in making friends and networking with other inspired mamas!

What do you eat when you aren't feeling your best?
I usually have a bowl of what I call spaghetti soup (a recipe that I invented as a kid). It's pasta with tomato juice and a little butter and salt. It's very plain, but when I feel like crap it makes me feel MUCH better.

My mother-in-law makes the best Chinese comfort food. The kind of stuff (quality) that you can't find in Chinese restaurants ... like red bean soup and cooked asian eggplant and fried yellow onions. So incredibly good and makes me feel better. (She came a day or two after I came home from hospital with Monster Love and cooked up a storm .... it was just wonderful. And, she celebrating the New Year with us and so we're eating well!)

It depends. Physically feeling unwell? I have mashed potatoes. Mentally or emotionally unwell? I have cupcakes.

I am the very proud mother of a too-cute-for-words one year old son! My job has me commuting an hour each way, but I do work from home one day a week and get to see hubby and son as soon as they get home! My hubby takes our son to/from the onsite daycare where he works and is able to spend an hour or two bonding (i.e. wrestling)before i get home! :)

lol Kat! i like the way you think!
for me if my tummy is upset, it is toast and gateraid! if i am just feeling generally lousey... pretty much whatever anyone else makes for me will do!
if i am in a foul mood and want 'comfort' it is more of either fried something with mashed potatoes and sawmill gravy and/or something hot chocolatey and covered in icecream for dessert!

I revert to my New Zealand roots and crave British-style food: buttered crumpets with honey and tea or buttered toast with Marmite.
Mamajama - I like the sound of your "soup." That does sound comforting.
If I'm just looking for emotional comfort food, then it depends on my mood: potato chips, tortilla chips with queso, peanut butter sandwiches, artichoke dip with round melba snacks, or pasta tossed in a little olive oil and salt. I guess I go for the salty and starchy foods...

My coworkers always assume that since I'm half Indian and half Haitian, my comfort foods must be something spicy and exotic. But, really, my all-time favorite comfort food is macaroni and cheese.

I was thinking of all kinds of different foods that have been comfort foods for me, until I realized that they all had one consistent ingredient. It seems that butter must be my comfort food!

If I'm feeling unwell, I just grab some saltines and water. Occasionally I'll go for a sprite but usually water.
If I'm just upset or sad, then I'm all about chocolate.

If I'm feeling under the weather I like sweeten tea and cinnamon toast (with butter & brown sugar) is my comfort food of choice. I think I drank gallons of tea the last time I was sick!
