Let's Talk about Breakfast Baby

Can anyone tell I have that Salt and Peppa song "Let's Talk About Sex Baby" in my head? Anyway, I'm wondering what others eat for breakfast. Around here it's a bagel or a bowl of cereal (my favorite right now is Kashi Go Lean Crunch). I used to have a smoothie every morning with banana and frozen fruit and yogurt and fruit juice, but somehow it seems like to much work these days. So what's breakfast for you?Flag as inappropriate Posted by mamajama on 20th August 2008

My favorite breakfast is an egg white wrap. I make it with either veggie sausage and egg whites or I make it breakfast burrito style with mashed up pinto beans (no oil, fat or salt added) and egg whites. I love salsa on it, too. The breakfast burrito keeps me full for a while. I always get hungry really quickly if I only eat carbs for breakfast. It seems to sound gross to people in my office, because I eat here, but it seemed like when I lived in Cali, everyone ate breakfast burritos!Flag as inappropriate Posted by oceans mom on 20th August 2008

I'm not a huge breakfast person -- lately, it seems all I can manage is to fill the travel mug with coffee while making lunches and feeding the kids, and then drink it down as I drive to work. Why is it that I make a filling, well-balanced breakfast each morning for my kids, but never think to eat any of it myself?
Anyway, things I feed the kids: Baked apples with peanut-butter toast, eggs and sausage, sausage hash (think corned beef hash but with sausage instead), hashbrowns and fruit, oatmeal (not the packets -- too much sugar), yogurt with granola and fruit...
I make a huge batch of steel-cut Irish oatmeal with spices and a little vanilla and brown sugar, and then put it in the fridge. In the morning, it's easy to take a serving, drizzle a little milk or cream on top, and zap it in the microwave for a quick meal.
OK, now I have no excuse, I just have to feed myself!Flag as inappropriate Posted by Lylah M. Alphonse on 21st August 2008 -
My breakfast is usually a green smoothie these days, two or three tropical fruits, some spinach and a little water. My toddlers both drink these, too, but I usually give them a fruit plate, as well, since they enjoy eating with their hands and hiding food around the house.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Genesis on 21st August 2008

Okay, so those all sound like WONDERFUL things to have for breakfast, but how long does it take to make it and clean up?Flag as inappropriate Posted by mamajama on 22nd August 2008

I eat STEEL CUT Oatmeal and fruit! YUMMMM...
I don't have time to cook it fresh every AM, so I make a weeks worth at a time and keep it in the fridge!

My latest for me is granola and almond milk. I avoid cereal for Pidge because she doesn't have milk with her cereal so it's really just fast sugar followed by slow sugar with no protein or fruit. So she eats PB sandwiches, flat eggs (fried over easy), zucchini bread, pumpkin pancakes that I make ahead of time and freeze, smoothies... We've even done hot dogs or mac and cheese on occasion. I don't like to have to work too hard at breakfast on weekdays. I'm just not awake enough. But I want to give her the nutrition she needs. So I bake in advance and throw in all sorts of yummy, nutritious stuff.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Jenns on 28th August 2008

BizNurse, I absolutely LOVE to eat fruit in the morning. Some days I'm so disappointed to go in the kitchen and realize that we're out of all fruit. I've been trying to get better about always having some whether it's canned, fresh, or frozen.
Jenns, you're going to have to share your recipes. Those baked goods sound AWESOME! When do you bake? Do you do it during the week or on weekends?Flag as inappropriate Posted by mamajama on 29th August 2008
