Picky eaters?
-
I'm really glad to say that neither my husband or daughter are picky eaters (well...babyjama's still pretty young so I better knock on wood...okay I'm back.) Anyway, they pretty much eat what I make period. We had some guests over last night, and there was one child who would not eat anything that I had made. I didn't take it personally or anything, but it got me wondering what strategies people use for their picky ones? Do you make several things? Say "tough, eat what's here"? Try to hide nutrition in the food? Something else? I'm really curious.Flag as inappropriate Posted by mamajama on 4th September 2008

My daughter is turning 2 and she has her favorites, but she hasn't actually just said no to something yet. As long as I fill her plate with lots of vegetables or some fruit, she's happy. I'm really lucky that she loves those things and she doesn't usually fight me to eat her other foods unless she's not hungry anyways.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Marcia on 4th September 2008

My 4 kids are all different and all seem to like to eat different things or the same food different ways. I know there true dislikes. If the food is not the healthiest I let them chooce to eat or not.
When it comes to vegetables they know they have to eat them. They usually complain the first 3 times I give them something - by the 4th time they know they are not going to win and eat it without a fight. If I know it is something they really don't like (vegetable soup!), I will have a desert they love (even a few smarties will do). I tell them they can eat it or not, but they won't get desert. They know I am serious about this and they eat it every time, although sometimes we play the game "Have I eaten enough yet?".Flag as inappropriate Posted by Cherie on 5th September 2008 -
I have a ten year old son who is real picky about what he eats, and drinks. He is not real big on meat, which really stinks, because I do like eating meat. What little meat he does eat is either chicken nuggets, tenders, and patties. So I look around and see what offers the most real white meat.He does not like cereal,so I give him bagels and cream cheese,or toast and peanut butter,or fruit, which he loves. He does love to eat salads, spaghetti and sauce, goulash, and potatoes and gravy. He does not like to drink milk but I give him orange juice with all the calcuim and vitamins that milk has,he also loves to eat yogurt.I've tried the eat whats on your plate, but it does not work with him he will literally go to bed with out anything to eat,I've tried leaving it there,or warming it up for him for later, but nope it doesn't work with him.So I have to go adifferent route with him.He does eat his vegetables, loves fruit, and yogurt, and doesn't really eat junk food.So for now I work around his eating habit for now.I just add what I like to the mix for myself like a steak or chicken.Who knows maybe he will grow out of it.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Regina on 5th September 2008
