I'm the mom of three kids, two I still homeschool and 1 who is off on his own.
I run a graphic design business from home. I've been an artist my whole life, and I've been doing graphic design for the last 13 years

Our group started out as a local meetup group. Actually, it was 2 meetup groups and it was run by one person, Christine. As things happen when you have 4 kids between the ages of 10 months and 7 years, she got too busy to keep up with both. That's where I come in. I'm Wendy and I'm a graphic designer living on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I am the organizer of one of the groups Christine started, a local Women In Business meetup group in West Pasco and Pinellas counties in Florida.
I do not live in an area that is very likely to spend what I charge for design. That's fine though, I have the internet. ;) Most of my clients are acquired via word of mouth referrals. I have clients internationally. 95% of the projects I have going on are projects I got from networking.
There are new networking sites popping up all over. Some are just the same as most. This one, however, had some really interesting and useful features. I'd like to help get this site more active since we only help each other by joining these sites. You can't know too many people when you are trying to spread the word about what you do for a living.
So get out there and Network!!

I am the co-founder & CEO of Work It, Mom! This is my first stint as a full-time entrepreneur and it's the most thrilling and scary thing I've ever done.
Before launching Work It, Mom! I slaved away in the dark world of venture capital.

Hi, Wendy - thanks for starting this group. Did you see the Entrepreneur Moms group on the site? I think both have the same goal in mind - to help all of us women in business network and learn from each other!

I am the very proud mother of a too-cute-for-words one year old son! My job has me commuting an hour each way, but I do work from home one day a week and get to see hubby and son as soon as they get home! My hubby takes our son to/from the onsite daycare where he works and is able to spend an hour or two bonding (i.e. wrestling)before i get home! :)

Wendy! Thanks for starting this group! I think in ANY business it's important to network! I am not currently an Entrepreneur so I don’t really feel like i can relate to that group as much. My hope is that this group will also include information/networking from those of us that work for companies, either from home or at the office.
I am currently an IT Project Manager for a very large company. While it's interesting and I have learned a lot, I am really to move back into a management role as an IT director or manager for a smaller company. I feel like this type of move will allow my career to continue to grow - I don’t want to be a PM forever!
So I guess my question to the group is how? How do you bring together all of your past work experience into a new position? How do you get companies to look at you when they really just want to hire someone whose current job matches the requirements for their opening?

I am new to Workitmom and so it's great to see other women involved. I just got back from BlogHer in SF, and THAT was women networking at its best. I think BlogHer worked in terms of networking is that almost all the women were in tech or blogging and so it was a natural group of like-minded individuals. I would love to see networking on workitmom, as I am trying to establish my own business on the side.

Hi and thanks for starting this group. I'm new to Workitmom too. It promises to be a great help. Networking is so crucial whether you're entrepreneurial or in the corporate world. The old adage, "It's not what you know its who you know." Being active in networking can make all the difference. Participation in sites like this and LinkedIn and Facebook are also helpful.
Also, I found a Web site that has Networking as one of its main categories with new articles about it almost every day. It's just a good site in general too, for the professional woman. It's www.w2wlink.com. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Hi, Ekela. Facebook, that Cat mentioned, is an online networking site. More and more people in business are using it to make connections. Check it out and see what you think. Cat and I must think alike. I, too, have been to w2wlink.com and found it really helpful. Good stuff - and you can join a network circle to be part of an online networking group.

I am currently supplementing my income as a designer with B's Purses. I am also a full time student, mother and stepmother of five combined, a grandmother of three.
I decided to start my own business and after many attempts I have finally found one that creates the extra income I need for my family. Even in a tough economy women still love to buy purses.

Hi I am new here also and hopefully I can help some of you who need to earn extra cash in a tough economy. I have been the sole provider for my family for many years and have always been looking for ways to earn more!!! Saving is the hard part with five children and three grandchildren...
I was reading Family Circle when I ran across an ad for ways to earn extra money. I work with Avon, MaryKay and PrePaid Legal but the best one I have seen so far is B's purses.
I hope one of you will be able to earn the money you need for the inflation in gas and food prices...I love it.

Best of luck to you all and networking is the best!

Have any of you tried ZenZuu.com yet? It's pretty new, but it's growing fast. I have met some very nice people with ZZ who have been very gracious with their knowledge, and I have gotten some interest in a new business venture I am exploring to connect women globally. I signed up with ZZ because they will share 80% of their advertising revenue with their active users every month. All of their marketing budget is spent on word of mouth marketing. It's completely free, and a lot of business people are using it to promote their businesses to each other and on the community part of the site.
You can get more info on that site if you go to www.freeandgetpaid.com/marylynn

I have raised my child completely on my own with out support from family or her father. I worked so much that I hardly ever saw her growing up...now I have all the time in the world it seems since I work from home. I also work for a company outside my home due to the fact that I have worked so much I need that to keep busy, but I wish I would've known then what I know now. However, I am now able to help my daughter to stay at home with her children so I guess it's all worth it in the end!

My name is Christine. I work from home as a Medical Transcriptionist. After being downsized from a great job a few years back this was suggestion from my cousin. I absolutely love that I don't have to be out in the rat race anymore and I save a ton on gas. But the networking is amazing and you need it to be competitive and find ways to get paid more and work less. This is the school my cousin, myself and my daughter attended and I found them to be totally supportive. Anyone can do this and it's great for stay at home moms. www.mtacc.net

I have recently started working with a company called Ameriplan that allows me to stay at home with my kids and choose the hours I want. The greatest thing is that the company provides the leads for FREE! All I do is call them up and fill out an application for them for discounted dental, vision, or health plans. I absolutely love it!
