I am the co-founder & CEO of Work It, Mom! This is my first stint as a full-time entrepreneur and it's the most thrilling and scary thing I've ever done.
Before launching Work It, Mom! I slaved away in the dark world of venture capital.

I was thinking of this the other day. As you guys know, I write the Work It, Mom! Blog, which sometimes is personal, sometimes is about issues related to Workitmom.com or working moms in general. I had an idea for a post that would involve writing about my family in a bit of detail and was hesitant to write it, thinking about how they would react.
Do you ever not write something because of what your family might think or how they would react? Who in your family reads your blogs?

I actually have a separate blog that I write on that my family does not know about...it's where I can go and write what really bothers me....it often involves them.

I had to really chuckle when I read your post. You should visit my blog and see my Christmas day post www.livingontheedge.typepad.com My husband was a bit annoyed about the picture with him in the ski goggles.
I don't get to blog about everything I'd like to blog about cuz my husband reads my blog when he works graveyards. He likes to catch up on things that I wouldn't have gotten around to telling him cuz he sleeps during the day.
But at the same time I have to be careful about other things that it would be better not to blog with him reading. You know when the checker at Costco is that cute college kid that looks good in his denim jeans....LOL!

I have one blog for my family and one I just started for me to vent about some relatives. I find I have to censor my opinions on the family blog a lot! I also feel I cannot be completely honest because the family blog readers DO NOT want to read about why I am so peeved about the stuff they do and it would hurt their feelings. Brutally honest feelings and posts go on my private blog so it is way more interesting....LOL!
Oddly enough I have friends I did not even know reading my blog. Friends tell friends about their friend and it seems to spread. My mom wanted her bridge group to see pictures of her grandkids and so she sent a link and they all read a few posts and they email me now and ask me questions and request updates! It is really funny.
I signed up for googleanalytics and they send me a run down of the views and stats on the blog. I average about 46 views a week. Isnt that cute? but who knew it was more than just my mom, dad and brothers reading.

I've had people from as far away as India, England and Australia read mine! It's kind of strange if you think about it...but kind of neat too....makes the world a little smaller!

I've worked fulltime since college (20 years ago!) as an accountant/manager in the nonprofit sector. I'm recently married for the second time - in addition to my son, I have two stepchildren (one girl, one boy). And then there's my four-legged canine "daughter."

My husband and my sister both read my blog, and knowing that they do does affect my choices about what I write and how I write about it sometimes, but I don't feel particularly constrained by it.

I try to make sure I don't post anything -- anywhere -- that I wouldn't want my ex-wife-in-law (husband's ex) or my kids to read. My oldest has started Googling my name and seeing what comes up -- I want her to be proud of -- or, at least, not ashamed, embarassed, skeeved out, or upset by -- anything she reads.
My parents, inlaws, brothers, kids, and random coworkers read my blogs (here, at the 36-Hour Day, and at Write. Edit. Repeat). So, personal blogging gets limited. For now, at any rate!

I'm a working mom of two beautiful little girls. My husband is wonderfully supportive, but he's, you know...a man. I'm a northerner by birth living in the South. By day, I work to rid the world of cancer. By nights and weekends, I'm a mommy activist trying to make the world a better place for us moms.

Great question. I've mentioned that I have a blog to a few family members and co-workers, but I have not handed out the URL. Part of what I love about my blog is that I get to be completely anonymous. This is by design mostly so I don't get myself into trouble at work.
I know I'm doing myself a huge disservice by not telling my friends about my blog, because that's who I'm appealing to. But I want to get it to a point where it looks and reads like a big girl blog before I share. In the meantime, I'm loving meeting new people online. This way, I know you're reading me because you like me -- you really, really like me -- and not just because you love me.

Oh, my family found my blog. I think my sister-in-law originally found it, then my parents, and then my in-laws. My funny, honest, pure-me blog became just an update blog. I recently started a new blog where I take my original blog and then add what I "really" think. It was terribly depressing, and I'm scared to death that a family member will find my new blog - but, whatever. If you're interested it's at: http://hecticmomundone.blogspot.com/ and it makes me feel like I have a voice again.

I have multiple blogs. One is my boring barely used blog, one is an old one for my ramblings and I started another today for those vents. Not sure if my family even thinks I'm cool enough for a blog. Isn't that sad?

I've always been career-driven, and was a bit behind in getting bitten by the baby bug.
We became parents for the first time when I was just shy of turning 33, and the Hubby had just turned 45. (Early 2007)
We knew we would both need to keep working to support our little family, but I didn't realize how difficult the balancing act of personal and professional life would become after I added "mom" to one of my titles.
I struggle to do as much as I can (you can't truly have it all in life), while still remaining sane.
I'm a public relations professional, firefighter (seriously), wife and mother. I'm sure there are a few more titles I'm missing in there!

I've made my blog a family blog for this reason, but I have been slowly working on maybe setting up a different, completely anonymous blog, so I could truly vent things there. I know I have been asked why I never talk about certain things on my blog, and I always have to be aware the Hubby's family reads it, some of my coworkers read it, my family reads it, etc...
I may wait until my little guy is a little older, as it is difficult enough now to post updates on him - laptop and one-year-old don't mix.

My family and friends read all of my blogs. I'm not blogging about super confidential so it really doesn't matter who reads it. A lot of times, my kids will give me topics to blog about.

I am a Canadian expat living in Guatemala. I am a work at home mom with two kids under two and a freelance writer.
It is not easy, but my husband was recently able to quit his teaching job to stay home and watch the boys while I work and focus on his night career as a musician, his true calling! I call that success. :D

I have several blogs, but only one of them is personal. In it I cover my life as an expat mom (www.expatmom.info) and I do watch what I write there. However, my main concern is that my kids will one day read what I´ve written about them! So, I try not to embarrass them too much.
At the moment, one of my sisters reads my blog regularly to keep up with her nephews, since she lives in Canada and I live in Guatemala. I´m not in contact with my parents and youngest sister, so I don´t know if they read it, though they do know about the blog. My other sister only reads it when I send her a link. But my grandmother occasionally stops by.
The other day, I discovered that my husband was checking out my blog on his cell phone! I write in English, though and his English is not very good, so he doesn´t actually read it, just looks to see what photos I´ve put up.

I am mom, wife, teacher, and coffee addict. My life consists of adventures in raising a college student and a disabled teenager and three small rabbits, all while teaching full time. I preserve my sanity by blogging and gardening and reading and drinking coffee.

My children (ages 16 and 21) both read my blog, as does my husband, my mom, and a few other assorted relatives. My sister-in-law, in fact, teased her husband (my brother!) about how much he missed by not reading it. I do "censor" myself somewhat with the family in mind. It keeps me thinking of privacy and my family's safety.

Hey, I'm a boomer mom who is about to have an empty nest. Newly remarried, I'm curious about how to have a 50 year marriage and blog about that and more at:

Hmmm, I'm struck by how many people say they either censor themselves or have separate personal blogs. Of course, I understand the need/desire to protect our families, but I wonder how that squares with the notions of authenticity and transparency, which are central to blogging. Just a thought.
My blog, ThisMarriageThing.com will launch in a few weeks. It's running for the time being at www.tbd.com as the group, This Marriage Thing. It's about boomerhood, marriage and re-inventing one's life and marriage so it can get pretty personal.
I try to talk about our life in a way that is authentic yet protects our family's privacy (after all they're not the bloggers). Yet at the same time readers will know something about us- maybe even more than I anticipate or would like- from the blog. And, I think that's the point of blogging, to share your life's experience.

I am ridiculously proud of the fact that I get to raise two really amazing kids. I am single by design and wouldn't have it any other way. Professionally I have accomplished a lot both in the corporate world and running my own business. I know what it is like to be unemployed and under-employed. Personally, I am a diehard optimist, terminally perky and a hardcore believer in personal accountability.

I have blogged for years with friends, family and even co-workers reading regularly. My rule is that if I wouldn't SAY it to someone I won't blog it about them.

My Mother reads my blog... so I am careful what I say about raising my teen sister. My Mum has ALS and won't be with us much longer. She can no longer speak, walk, use her arms, eat, etc... her brain is fully functioning, so being able to use the computer is her main entertainment and communication. My teen sister has been living with us for 2 years... I don't write about the frustrations involved because I don't want my Mum to feel bad. Other than that I don't worry too much. I don't know what other family and/or friends might read my blog. I don't go into detail on things that might be touchy to some... such as writing about disagreements with hubby... I try to avoid that topic all together. Hubby doesn't pay too much attention to my blog other than the random inquiry, "are you writing about me on there?". I get A LOT of hits on my blog because of my families special diet so I share a lot of recipes and ideas that have worked for us. I also try to remember, some things in life should remain private. So its okay to share something funny or light-hearted, but probably not a place I want to vent when I am frustrated. Afterall, my kids may read it someday and I don't want them to feel ashamed because of what I wrote.

My blog is pretty new and unknown to family members. To be honest, I have been struggling with the idea of staying authentic and yet being able to vent when I need too. I have seen quite a few news reports about people finding out others have blogged about them and then taking them to court for defamation etc. That worries me from time to time so I am going to keep things in check as much as I can for now.
