I am the co-founder & CEO of Work It, Mom! This is my first stint as a full-time entrepreneur and it's the most thrilling and scary thing I've ever done.
Before launching Work It, Mom! I slaved away in the dark world of venture capital.

I am curious about what everyone is spending per month on childcare -- it seems the numbers vary so much depending on where you live. For us, daycare, 9-3pm, Monday through Friday is $1200. And then we have a sitter 3 days a week for 3 hours each, and we pay her $14 per hour.

I use to pay a Nanny 500 - 600 a week to come to my house that was also 3 yrs ago. I pay babysitters $10.00 (usually a freshman in highschool or home from college break) because I usually leave the kids when they are sleeping or for an hr or two during the day.

I am a math teacher at an all-girls private school. I had my one and only baby at age 43 because she didn't come any earlier than that.

I pay $775.00 a month for daycare (full time) . This is lower than most places we checked in the Portland area. Most places are over $1000 a month.

I am the very proud mother of a too-cute-for-words one year old son! My job has me commuting an hour each way, but I do work from home one day a week and get to see hubby and son as soon as they get home! My hubby takes our son to/from the onsite daycare where he works and is able to spend an hour or two bonding (i.e. wrestling)before i get home! :)

we pay about $980/month for full time daycare at my husband's office. but that is low for the area, since he works for the county it's a discount. most around here run around $1200 - $2000.
yes, i told my husband he cannot leave the county until after we are done with babies and they are all in school!!

I'm a career mom with 3 kids ages 5, 8, and 20. I got started young and have worked very hard to achieve a solid career. It's funny, but I find that although younger and single with my first, being married, financially secure, and two kids is much more stressful. I'm looking for some balance and tips from other moms. I'm also interested in mom's that started their own businesses and how you've managed to do it! Or, had you switch careers

Daycare for son is $1000 per month. Daughter's school program $500 per month. We've had nannies in the past, and will have one this summer. Going rate is $15 per hour.
We got lucky on daycare for our son. The quality of the program is excellent. The director is amazing. Most places were $1200 - $1500 per month for comparable programs.

Two little kids in daycare = about $2,200 a month.
Now that I've typed that, I need a drink.

How do families pay for childcare when if costs so much?

Lenice - in home child care is much lower. the $1000 rates are probably for larger facilities.
Michele - i feel the same way about ours! Our son LOVES going and is very happy there and *I* love all of the staff and the fact that they teach the things we are teaching at home
Lylah - so funny! i dont really like thinking about the cost either. i keep waiting for the supposed 'decrease' when he moves into the next class (supposedly in september! yay!)

I am a "older" new Mom of a beautiful daughter named Kaleigh. I have been so blessed to have her in my life and get the opportunity of being a Mother, as I am also a breast cancer survivor, who thought due to chemo that my ability to have children was gone. I now am trying to balance working full time, being a Mom, and finding time for myself.

My daughter is 5 months old and has been going to daycare since she was 8 weeks old. We take our daughter to a Kindcare here in Lincoln, Ne and we pay $187 a week, so about $748 a month. This is a little on the high end for Lincoln, but I like the Kindercare workers and the Director seems to be very professional and understanding of what the kids need.

I love being a mom to my two kids and wife to my husband. They bring me great satisfaction. For myself, I like to scrapbook with my friends, go out for lunch, and try to read a book every once in a while. I love my job! Work is like hanging out with my friends on the weekend and then being apart of the best thing on earth. The birth of a baby. I work in Labor and Delivery, it is awesome.

What is the going rate for live-out nannies? I will only be using her or him 3 days a week for about 11 hours/day to care for my 6-month old daughter and do light housekeeping. I am in South Texas - does anyone have any ideas?

Mother, Wife, Woman, yes, that that order, although I'm working on moving the order around a little. Every once in a while, woman should be first. My granny always tells me to take care of myself, or I won't be here to take care of anyone!

For our 4 year old daughter, we WERE paying $500/month. Now that she is going to Pre-Kindergarten, our bill will literally be cut in half.

I am a mother of two beautiful little girls. I work full time in the medical field. I hate taking them to daycare, so I have recently started working home business (Melaleuca)at home. It is going slowly, but it has finally started coming together. I like the fact that I am using safer products for my family and eventaully I should be able to spend more time with them at home. My ultimate goal is to be able to be home fulltime and enjoy any and all extra activities they might get into.

Lets see. for Monday and friday care for the month is about $400.00 for my two girls. My weekend daycare for 12 horus days both days is $120.00 multiple that by 4 weeks. Damn I never thought of it all in one sitting. No wonder why I started a home business. It will help of set the daycare cost, until I can get it full up and running.

We have a relative who comes to the house to take care of a 5 year old - 1000.00 per month, cell phone, car (insurance paid by us too) and paid time off.
However our child is going to full day kindergarten this year- we'll need support to get her on/off the bus (7:30-8:45am) and (3:45-4:30pm).
Anyone have suggestions on salary/cost? What is etiquette when terms of Nanny employment is changed?

I have raised my child completely on my own with out support from family or her father. I worked so much that I hardly ever saw her growing up...now I have all the time in the world it seems since I work from home. I also work for a company outside my home due to the fact that I have worked so much I need that to keep busy, but I wish I would've known then what I know now. However, I am now able to help my daughter to stay at home with her children so I guess it's all worth it in the end!

I don't pay child care because I am able to work from home...I am a medical transcriptionist. If anyone is interested in a legitimate career and not a get rich quick scheme. (you actually have to work) Here is the school I went to online to get my training. They have been around for a while and they know what they are doing. The support system is awesome. www.mtacc.net
Thanks any questions email me

I have used a system in the past that has worked really well for me.
I have paid a nanny $450 per week (live out) plus gym membership (it's barely anything more to add on to the family plan) and I pay her regardless of how much I use her which means she still gets paid weekends and holidays the same amount. At the end of her term which is a 1 year commitment she gets a bonus I think the reason it's worked well is there is something waiting at the end of the term for her, and if she stays on I usually offer an extra incentive or perk to renew our agreement.
I have also had a live in Nanny I pay $250 per week plus room and board but I know that there are several agencies like Cultural Care Au Pair who try to make it really affordable to have a live in nanny.
