New to Work it Mom

Hello moms, I am new to Work it Moms. I just joined today.
My name is Jane, I am a step mom. My husband has a 14 year old son from a previous marriage. We live in Californina. It is a beautiful day here.
Tell me more about advertising moms. I am a recently published author. The one thing that I have come up against is good marekting ideas. I am unknown so people are not looking for me and unless they are looking for a specific type of book, they may not find mine.
I wrote a children's story called Bubbles the Little Pig and is a fictional story about my families pot bellied pig, Bubbles. It is on Amazon, Borders, Target, Barnes and Noble and international which is all really exciting but again, I am finding that getting my book out there is difficult.
Thank you.Flag as inappropriate Posted by JMFerguson on 30th July 2008 -

Jane, have you offered to do book signings on Kids Days at bookstores and libraries?

Signings are a good idea, but that's mostly for local advertisement. I was thinking maybe if you had a blog you could advertise that way. You could also send out a few free copies of your book for people to review and write about on their blog. Giveaways attract a bunch of readers. I always advertise mine through Prizey.net and that can bring in over a hundred in a day, depending on how many are interested. I've had people give me two items, one to keep and one to giveaway if I write them a review and share it with everyone. If you have your own blog, people can link to you so you get more traffic. You could email some online kid stores and ask if they'd like to sell your book. I'm not sure what all goes into that, but I have purchased books from many of those.
What is the base of the story line? What is it meant to teach? Do you have a photo of the cover or a page to see how it's illistrated?Flag as inappropriate Posted by Marcia on 7th August 2008 -
Hi Ladies, I am still new at this so I hope I am doing this right.
I have only done one book signing and I haven't offered to do any readings but I it is in my plans.
I have sent out some free books and I am featured this month in the Marketplace for Work it Mom. There is a pic of the cover and a flyer with some info about what the book is about. It is a simple story about our familie pot bellied pig, Bubbles. It is fiction. What does it teach, I guess that sometimes it is better not to be too curious and that there is no better place then home.
Marcia, what on-line kids stores would you recommend?Flag as inappropriate Posted by JMFerguson on 8th August 2008 -
Hi JMFurguson -- first of all, welcome, great to have you in the community!
What about your local paper -- have you considered pitching them to do a review of the book? Local radio might be a good consideration as well.
Another idea I had is to connect with various bloggers who might be writing about kids' books as part of their beat and see if they'd like a review copy.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Nataly on 8th August 2008 -
Hi Nataly,
Thank you.
I was actually interviewed by our local paper and featured on the front page which was a nice surprise. Bubbles photo was there as well.
I am new at this blogging stuff and not sure that I really get it all yet.Flag as inappropriate Posted by JMFerguson on 9th August 2008
