How to deal with idiots who are so interested in only promotion?

Please share your experience how to deal with those who likes to do anything for their needs - to get promotion....Flag as inappropriate Posted by Hye Youn C on Last Sunday

This is a tough one... I'm in journalism, and journalism is all about what you've done lately, not just what you've done. The one-upmanship in the name of competition can be really fierce, and promotions are both relative and hard to come by. I can't count the number of times I've pitched story ideas, been told that they wouldn't fly, and then seen them published -- under someone else's name -- a few weeks or months later.
When faced with someone who seems to be willing to do anything (or step on anyone) to get ahead, I try to remember what my own goals are. Am I gunning for that same recognition/promotion? If I am, why is it important to me? What am I willing to give up to get it? Is this person affecting me with his or her actions? How can I protect myself?Flag as inappropriate Posted by Lylah M. It is one thing to follow your passion. It is another to squash, use and abuse everyone you encounter to get where you want to be. If you are dealing with the latter, try to just ignore them. If someone is just really passionate about taking their career to the next level, and harming no one along the way, more power to them I say!Flag as inappropriate Posted by KathyHowe on Monday

I agree with KathyHowe but would add that if they aren't harming anyone, maybe there is some way you can help them reach that goal. From your question it sounds like you're dealing with someone impossible, though. Without knowing more of the situation I can certainly say that deep breaths when they get to you will help you remember that you are strong. And that will help you to let it go.Flag as inappropriate Posted by Mandy Nelson - Dandysound on Monday
