I started using the disposable plastic food containers to store small toys (action figures, dinosaurs, etc). Not only does it keep all of the little stuff together but a pack of them is only about $2.50. These then get placed in the toy box and we have an organized toy box!
Bringing my own lunch to work each day has been my lifesaver -- though, early on, I was sure it would just make things more stressful for me. (Another lunch to pack in the morning! No way!) But it's easy to throw leftovers, cut-up veggies and some low-cal dressing, tea bags (way better than the coffee at my office), and a small treat in a bag while I'm packing lunches and snacks for my kids. And I don't feel an urge to hit the junk-food-filled snack machines -- or even the chips-and-candy aisle at the supermarket -- at all, any more.
My daughter loves the videos on the sesame street website. We will plop down on the couch with the laptop, and I open one browser window for her on one side of the screen and one for me on the other. She can watch the videos, I can check email or just surf the internet, and we get some cuddle time together.
I work from home one day per week. It allows me to have some quiet time alone in the house, and I make sure to schedule little breaks for myself throughout the day.
SLEEP! I really try and make sure that with all that I have going on - I get enough sleep, even if it means goign down when the kids go down!
Being able to work from home has been a lifesaver for me. I'm a full-time employee and fortunately my boss is quite flexible and understanding when I need to modify my schedule to be home with the kids. My laptop and corporate VPN (Virtual Private Network) keeps me connected. It took time, a great attitude, and delivering quality work to get to this point.
My favorite way to destress is to inhale, exhale and remember that I need time for me. You need to take care of YOU! No one else will.
Personally, I light a scented candles, take bubble baths, then shower off and listen to guided meditation. As my regular work out I do whatever the children do at the playground.
Thankfully, no one is looking over my shoulder at work, so one of my me time squeezes is periodically checking facebook & now this site...for my daily dose of there is a life out there aside from work and being a mom.
