Holiday Spirit in Action

Doing today what you could postpone until tomorrow

Each year I resolve to do something for the community.

And each time I procrastinate, supported by reasonable excuses relating to 'mommying' the kids, no money, and so on and decide that I will definitely do it next year!

This past year we were faced with the possibility of not having a 'next year'. Our youngest and I both had health scares, that fortunately turned out OK, but could have just as easily gone very wrong. While going through our nightmares, we felt so supported by our friends, family, and our community, . The hospital even helped us out when the dreaded bills came!

So, with the holidays approaching, we realize how different our reality could have been, and we feel grateful, for our health, our kids, each other, and our community.

No more excuses, no more postponing, this year we did something -- however small! We launched our 'Hugs for the Holidays' campaign. Each time we sell a BearHug, we give one away to a child who is hospitalized over the holidays. Attached to each BearHug is a message from someone in the community.

We visited the kids at California Pacific Medical Center on December 5th and even though we were handing out the BearHugs, they were the ones doing the giving. We all had such a lovely time meeting these beautiful children and their families! (You can view a short movie about this visit on our website.) We will definitely go back on Christmas Day.

Wishing all of you inspiring and powerful women love, joy, health and family over the holidays.
