Yoga and Pilates
Yoga and Pilates are two types of exercise that you can do at home. Not only are they great for stretching and strength training, they also are wonderful for relaxing your mind. You can use videos or buy a book that shows the different poses. I suggest going to a Yoga or Pilates class to make sure you are doing the movements right and to get a nice routine you can take home with you.
Resistance Bands
These are very handy little strength-training tools you can use at home or take with you when you are traveling. They are simple to use and probably the most convenient tool on the market. Real Living Nutrition has a simple resistance band routine you can use anywhere.
Jump Rope
You read that right! Jumping rope is a fast and easy way to sneak in some cardio when you are short on time and don't want to go out in the cold for a walk. You can make jumping rope a beginner, moderate, or extreme activity. (If you haven't been exercising in a while, it is safest to start off slowly.) This is also something you can do with your kids -- just make sure you have a good open space and tall ceilings so you don't break your favorite vase or light fixture.
Exercise Videos
We all probably have some exercise videos hiding in a box in our closet. There are so many of these on the market, and they can be a great way to get in your activity at home. Find ones you like and make sure the host of the video is someone you enjoy watching, otherwise it will be easy to give up on them.
Dance
Whether you and your kids own Dance Dance Revolution or you just want to hold your own competition, dancing is a fun and great way to get your heartrate up. Your kids will love this time with you and it will also make for some good laughs!
