I work from home and have three children, ages 6, 3, and 7 months. I began staying home 2 1/2 years ago when my mother-in-law and I couldn't get along (and she was our babysitter). Working wasn't worth it.
1.) Put family first. I thought that putting my business first would help it to move along better. While that may be true, I knew that I was ignoring the work that I had to do in our home to keep it a happy place. So I designated time in half-hour increments that I would dedicate only to housework or only to be with my son or only to my business. It is absolutely amazing the things I can get done!
2.) Show hubby attention and affection. Before, when my husband came home, it was a short "hi," a kiss, and I was busy sending emails and making phone calls. Needless to say, this did not make him a happy guy. So now, I make sure that I hug him, kiss him, and tell him some good things that happened that day when he walks in the door.
3.) Stay away from negatives. When hubby comes home, I don't start complaining about things that went wrong that day. Instead, I start off with good things that the kids did, maybe, or something good that I did for him. I have put sticky notes on the door with comments from the kids about something they want to tell him or something cool that they did. He has responded very well to those!
