The Motherhood Experiment

Helping moms balance work and family may lead to larger families and higher population growth? Sound surprising? It shouldn't and this article shows some data that suggests that countries that invest in programs to help moms maintain their careers while caring for their children - inexpensive government sponsored daycares, longer maternity leaves - have higher population growth than those that leave it most up to the families themselves to figure it out. (Sadly, the US is very much the latter.)
