My Past Does Not Equal My Future

For at least a little while, we want you to get used to being scared. Thinking about working from home is exciting and frightening -- building a business is exhilarating and frightening. Accepting the uncertainty of your work at home business, especially in the beginning, is a big part of getting started.

What we want you to know is that everyone feels fear in the beginning. We have all been there at one time or another -- I know I have! The point is to go ahead and feel scared, but to use that energy created by the anxiety to get you moving in the right direction.

It helps to think of the future -- of your life and of your business as a journey. On this journey, you are going to grow and change. That’s a good thing, because change is part of every journey. In order to have a place to work, you may need to change your kitchen around to make space to work at home. In your own mind, you may need to change your concept of yourself from stay-at-home mom to work-at-home mom. Change is part of everything we do, whether we are aware of it or not. Most importantly, change is good.

We also want to grant you the freedom of a blank slate on which to create your future. We don’t want you to be held back by your past choices, mistakes and challenges.

Where would Dorothy be if she never ventured down the yellow brick road? She not only went down the yellow brick road, she put her faith in the wizard who turned out to be just another person trying find his way home. We could call that a mistake, but why waste the energy? Dorothy made some incredible friends, had outstanding experiences, and learned the real reason why she wanted to go home. Don’t beat yourself up for things you consider mistakes in your past, it all a part of your journey; a journey that has brought you here.

We think that is so important that we want you to write it down and post it somewhere you can read daily to remind you that your past does not equal your future. What you decide to do today determines your future, not what you did yesterday or years ago. The only difference between women who try to work at home and those who do is that the women who do kept trying.
