I made some trade-offs to get this job and get away from the pagers and emergencies: what I gained in flex time I lost in salary and vacation. I wake up at 5:30 in the morning to be to work by 7:00—but I leave for the day at 3:00. I’m not making as much money as I did in my previous field, but my reward is worth so much more than money: meeting my son every day after school as he runs into my arms yelling, “Mommy!”
