  • Alcohol has 7 calories per gram compared to 4 calories per gram of carbohydrate and protein, and 9 calories per gram of fat.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol to help you sleep. It will get you to sleep faster but not help you to stay asleep.
  • Contrary to popular belief, alcohol will not keep you warm in cold weather. Instead it tends to increase the body's heat loss making you more susceptible to cold.
  • Some mixed drinks such as margaritas or a long island iced tea can be more than 600 calories per drink.

  • This is a nice summary of an often confusing topic. Thanks. Oh, but no thanks for ruining my day with that note about margaritas being loaded with calories. Grrr. This is not what a girl wants to hear!
