Another part of the no process was more contemplative than spontaneous. Wasn’t I, like so many of us, saying yes to so much that I didn’t really need or want due to perceived obligations and societal norms?
Increasing the use of the word no in my vocabulary became very freeing and I dumped many things and some people in my life that were no longer necessary. All of those no’s created more yeses in terms of the amount and quality of time and energy I have for my children and my husband. In the face of the big no tantrums from my kids, I learned the affirmative value of the negative, the void, the no, the nothingness from which new things emerge.
