As you’ve probably all heard by now, Olivia Wilde has been making headlines by posing for a photo while breastfeeding her son for Glamour Magazine’s September issue. Wilde explained that she was attempting to empower women and stated "You can be someone who is at once maternal and professional and sexy and self-possessed.” However, Wilde has received some backlash in the media.
There have been numerous articles bashing the celeb for this photo. This one, along with many others, explains that Olivia Wilde posing for this photo is a slap in the face, because everyday women are still being shunned by society when they breastfeed in public. However, they do back up and state that it’s good to see someone breastfeeding in public even if it’s unrealistic. Another article makes fun of the whole situation with the title “Breastfeeding In Public Should No Longer Be A Taboo For Mothers Who Are Conventionally Attractive”. People seem to have a problem with how unrealistic the photo was and the fact that this picture came from a movie star. For such a taboo subject, it’s no shocker that there was backlash, but it is surprising what that backlash is and where it’s coming from.
