Wow. We spent nearly an hour at a toy store filled with hundreds of toys designed by adults to engage children. Nothing in that whole building captured his interest and his imagination like this plate of seeds. The first seed that fell off the bagel onto the plate, that one seed was the source of a world of imagination for him. Here’s a game created from his unique mind, not planned by someone else in a design center in the U.S and manufactured in a factory in China.
The simplicity of it was totally refreshing. Just a seed and from it grew a game, fun, and giggles. Instead of me guiding him through a toy store to purchase pre-packaged presumed fun, my toddler led me to find our own source of joy.
As an adult, alone, those seeds and the plate on which they were served to me would probably have been lost in the clutter of my mind. Our newly sprouted beings may have a lot to teach us about the old and the new.
