9. Go easy on stuffed entrees-- they’re often loaded in fat and calories.

10. Avoid “super-sizing” combo meals. They may be an economic value, but they can add up to 2000 calories for one meal.

11. Go for grilled vegetables, fruit, or salads as a side. This can help you save calories, add important nutrients, and help you to feel full for a longer period of time.

The average American adult is gaining 2-5 pounds a year. It really is the little changes that make a lasting impact on your weight and health. Decreasing your calorie intake by just 100 calories a day can result in a 10 pound weight loss in a year. Use the above strategies to save 100 calories, or even more, with your next restaurant meal.

  • So true Spazzmom! :) Restaurant eating is much more expensive than making things at home.

  • I find myself with an open jaw when I go to restaurants, trying to find SOMETHING i know i cant make cheaper at home. I am so cheap, its really hard for me to even buy a cup of coffee at a restaurant, because I think, I could make a months worth of coffee for that price! Except whe I go for chinese at my favorite authentic chinese restaurant, then i find myself eating buffet style. Congrat Jenorama on he changes.

  • Honestly, since I read this a few weeks ago, I think this has change my life (I am lucky as the managing editor here to be able to read some things ahead of time!). I think about what you said about how when we go out, we sometimes think we deserve to order something great--and I have drastically changed how I order food when I go out. Thank you so much.
