In the 1990s and today, the single women of primetime TV completely shed their good girl images and were defined by their Friends, their miniskirts (dress codes were never quite the same after Ally McBeal), and their desires to have Sex and the City. Sure, we might all still yearn to couple up with someone, but we aren’t about to let that get in the way of a good time.
So, what’s next for us single girls? World domination? Maybe soon, what with more women graduating college than men. But, I’m a bit worried about the fact that a Sex and the City movie may be in the making. While I, of course, adore romantic endings, (what single girl doesn’t?), I’ll be honest. I was pleased when Sex and the City concluded with Carrie Bradshaw in a relationship that didn’t necessarily mean marriage. Why? Because I like to know that I’ll always have company when I stand in front of that bathroom mirror and say to my reflection, “Hey World! Welcome to the Single Girl!”
