A Healthy Disregard for the Impossible

Fortune favors the brave. Aim high!

Larry Page -- one of the co-founders of Google -- says that we should try to do things that most people would not. Is this easy advice? Probably not. Is this great advice? Most certainly, it is.

Google is the best living proof for why we should aim to do things that most of the people would not. While not too many people walk around saying that this is a no brainer thing to do, every single sane person on Earth acknowledges that when you get to do so, many rewards follow. And this is what happened to Larry Page -- hence his advice to us.

The other big idea surfacing any sound success like Google is the genuine desire to empower people. Inventions like the telephone, light bulb, printing, plastic, silicon, the Internet, Google, blogs, etc. truly empower people to reach their potential and fuel their dreams.

We tend to believe that human being’s potential is largely powered by the way we use our brain, but if you think about it, our potential is fired up as well by the tools we have at hand, as well as they way we use them for this purpose.

Among all species, humans managed to create outstanding things by simply being incurably curious, smart, participative, pushing the limits of knowledge, venturing into the unknown with a genuine appetite for discoveries and moving forward.

If you are thinking of a good time to start venturing down this discovery path, there is no better time than NOW. Don’t waste any time: Start guiding your efforts by what truly empowers people (your customers). When you market your product or service, make sure to offer people solutions to their needs and wants and in return, they will take your product or service to new, unthinkable heights. Maybe even Google-high heights.

Good luck!

  • Clara Burton, American Red Cross founder said this,

“I have an almost complete disregard of precedent, and a faith in the possibility of something better. It irritates me to be told how things have always been done. I defy the tyranny of precedent. I go for anything new that might improve the past.”

I live by this motto. At the end of the day, if I don't do it who will? Great article

  • Perhaps Larry Page should move up beside Einstein in my popularity book! This is great advice. Thanks for sharing Lorena!
