The kids are in bed, at last. The table has been cleared, the dishwasher is running, and, outside, the sky is alight with the beauty of sunset. For many women, evening is the only truly quiet time of day. A number of us, however, find it difficult to let go of the stresses of our earlier activities. Rather than finding healthy ways to relax, we grab a bag of chips and settle in with the TV for the rest of the night, or we look for more work to do. Neither action is conducive to the real rest and rejuvenation we require in order to be at our best the next day.

There are, however, some specific, soothing ways to de-stress after a hectic day. A candle-lit bubble bath and a quiet rest on a massaging chair are two effective relaxation methods. Some women find solace in painting their nails to classical music, others in curling up with some classic literature. Believe it or not, one of the best ways to unwind after a trying day is by engaging in physical exercise. Although exercising too close to your bedtime may interfere with your sleep, if you start early enough in the evening, it can help you to cope with the demands of your day.

A number of excellent workouts for women are known to be especially good for increasing health and offering respite. Workouts for women who love the outdoors can take the form of brisk walking or slow jogging. The soft scents and light touch of the cool night air -- in a brightly lit, safe area -- can be refreshing and rejuvenating. Workouts for women who would rather stay inside can be just as successful. Pilates, Yoga, and Tai Chi can improve balance, tone, and focus.

One convenient way for you to fit a tension-relieving workout into your day is to use online workouts.
