Attempted Mugging

What can you learn from a bad experience?

I’m proud of the way I defended myself and my girls – you should have seen his face! I’m glad my girls weren’t hurt in any way. I feel strong and confident. I feel angry that someone would try such a thing. I feel worried that I may run into him again. And I’m beyond angry that I feel as if I can’t walk in my neighborhood without having to watch everyone and everything.

Empower yourself. Clear your mind and ask yourself what you would have done in that situation. Could you have defended your children? Do you have enough confidence in yourself to know that no matter what you can keep a clear head? What will it take for you to get there? And if you are there can you help empower someone else? Don’t walk out thinking something bad will happen. Just give yourself the gift of knowing that if it does you have the strength and determination to make it right.

  • Thanks, Ladies, for all of your terrific comments and encouragement. I got back out there yesterday, just to walk a few blocks, and it was a little difficult but I can't be afraid or I'd never leave the house. Just in the past 2 days it's been on the news that twp women in the Boston area had even worse happen to them. I hope they're holding on!

  • Wow! You're my hero! I'm proud of you too and I don't even know you! I agree with Nan, though. Give yourself some space to work through whatever emotions may come as a result of this. My roommate was mugged right in front of our apartment in college and she was traumatized for quite some time. So glad you and your girls are ok!

  • Thanks for telling us about that experience. While it makes me a little scared, it also makes me feel empowered. Give yourself lots of space to work through the experience. Your babies are so fortunate to have such a fabulous and quick thinking Mummy.

  • You are my hero! Way to sock it to him! That said, what a TERRIFYING event! Please, please, please be sure not to bottle up any emotions related to what happened to you and your babes. While he didn't physically get anything of yours, you were still victimized by his acts. I know exactly how terrifying something like that can be. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your story!!!
