All alone: Taking a vacation by myself

It's not selfish to spend time and money on "just you"

Well, the first leg of the trip is almost over.  I'm no longer shaking.  I've settled in comfortably and am thinking about all of the grand adventures that lie in wait in the week ahead.  Big bro will pick me up from the airport and we're going straight to the beach for a swim.  Then to his home to meet my newest family member.  Then who knows what else.

And the thing I'm most looking forward to?  The return, where my children will hopefully be happy to see me (I harbor the thought that they won't even notice I'm gone since Papa is their favorite anyway) and, perhaps even more so, laying in bed with my husband that first night back, after the kids are in bed and the lights are out, and we remember why we love spending so much time together and how good a little time apart is for recharging the batteries.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to wake up the nice gentleman to my right so I can go to the potty.  ALONE!

  • Wow, oh wow. How cool ... I am envious!! I love the thought of traveling without having to drag along 110 lbs of car seat, sippies, snacks etc. My friend recently suggested I take a one-day trip alone. Maybe your story is a sign of sorts that I should do it!!

  • Thanks, Nataly. Shhh, don't tell anyone...it's been 2 full days and I don't feel guilty at all. I almost wish you were here BUT being alone is just what I needed so maybe next time.
