5. Find new ways to treat yourself even while you’re on a budget. Want to have fun for free or for very little? Living frugally or watching your budget doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself. You can attend free cultural events at the library or local museum. Or how about picking up coupons for your favorite restaurants? A great resource for coupons throughout the year is the Entertainment Book. Your investment of about $20 can be earned back after one dinner out. If you don't deprive yourself, you won't be tempted to splurge and ruin your carefully planned budget.

6. Keep your eye out for discounts. Aside from shopping for things on sale, you can also actively hunt for discounts. You won't know if you’re eligible for a discount unless you ask. From the dry cleaner to the electronics store, you may be able to negotiate the price you pay for purchases or for services rendered. I have successfully negotiated prices at major retailers including Macy's and Best Buy. Any money you save in this manner, you can add to your growing savings account!
7. Buy used. When you buy a new car, it loses value as soon as it leaves the showroom. The same applies to furniture and many other large ticket items. Buy gently used cars, furniture and big ticket items rather than buying new, in order to maximize savings. Try to avoid using credit as you make these purchases unless you’re able to retire the debt as quickly as possible.
8. Buy in bulk. Another great way to save is by buying in bulk. From pasta and paper towels for your family, to paper and printer cartridges for your business, you can save significantly when you buy in bulk.
