I have found over the years that intimidating situations become more manageable when I think ahead, manage my expectations, and make a commitment to protect my peace of mind. When I take the time to prepare and set my intention, the outcome is often a pleasant surprise.

My best wishes for a most enjoyable Thanksgiving!

  • Thanks for the great tip volunteermom. Great resource and its applications can reach far beyond family events. I can see it being used for committee work, organizing fundraising activities, PTA work, you name it.

  • Thank you for your leveling influence - I feel better already! Building off your steps 3 & 4, I invite your readers to check out VolunteerSpot.com. They have an EASY sign up tool so you can write down exactly the help you want from your family and friends (e.g. what to cook, what to buy, when to babysit), and then you can invite your posse to sign up online. They choose from your list. We used it for Thanksgiving Dinner - in addition to signing up to bring things, I had family sign up to set the tables and clean up. It was a nice way to ask for help w/out having to pick up the phone.
