  • I would add that you should volunteer for a nonprofit. Many NGOs need people with business skills to help them out on a myriad of projects and you may make contacts to help you get a job down the road. i have always volunteered on business projects for NGOs when I was unemployed, and it kept me busy and my skills fresh, additionally it is not a bad thing to talk about on interviews, about the perspective you gained in helping another in need. You can find projects at Volunteermatch.org

  • Some best ways to meet people is to join networking groups and the local Chamber of Commerce. Many offer the venues for meeting with non-competing businesses to exchange ideas, lecture series that offer guidance, fairs to display businesses, breakout groups focused on your type/size of business. Social networks such as LinkedIn offer professional groups that facilitate meeting even more people and learning about companies and business opportunities.
