More importantly, getting the axe can offer a life-changing opportunity to evaluate your career to date, and make positive changes. Think of being laid off as a new beginning, rather than a bad ending That’s the key to staying motivated at this job and the next.

  • It can be hard to keep it up though. I remember having one job where I knew 3 months ahead I was being let go but there were jobs in DC. It ended up being the head boss in DC loved me, the direct supervisor there didn't like me, wouldn't work with me. Made me really sad.
    On the other hand, the main boss felt so bad he couldn't hire me, I got 3 extra weeks pay for the inconvenience of not being hired and a great recommendation. So it did pay, in the end, to stay professional.
