In a few hours my husband and I are doing something I almost don’t remember how to do: We’re getting on a plane and taking a vacation without our daughter. My parents were kind enough to take her to the beach with them for a week and we decided that there is no excuse in the world - “It’s too expensive!” “We have too much work!” - that should prevent us from taking full advantage of this opportunity.
I am excited, nervous, and feeling very guilty. Excited to get away, nervous about getting work done while I am away (laptop packed, locations of Internet cafes written down, as much as possible done before we go), and guilty to not be with my daughter. I know this sounds silly; it’s only a week and she is having so much fun with my parents. But I feel it anyway.
What about you? Do you ever take trips without your kids? What do you do with the guilt - leave it at home or pack it to bring with you?
P.S. The Work It, Mom! Blog will be lighter than usual for the next week. We’ve got a few great guest bloggers lined up for our Guest Blogger Tuesdays, but I promised my husband to only work for a few hours each day while we’re away. He says he’ll believe it when he sees it!

Have a great vacation!
I’m going to a wedding in new york over labor day weekend, without my kids. Just one night, but hey, I”ll take what I can get.

Have a wonderful time!!!
I think it’s a sign of a great mom when she misses her kids
I am a big fan of Dr. William Sears… especially when he says
one of the best gifts a mom can give her kids is when she
is happy herself!
So by going to get some R&R, you’re building great memories with
your hubby, allowing treasured bonding with grandparents,
and coming back a super refreshed mommy!!
Sounds like a win-win-win!
Hmmmm…I think we all should go on vacation!!!
Talk to you soon,
Annemarie

Leave it at home? Is that an option? Maybe I should look into getting a guilt sitter.

[...] business trips (I know I am not alone in this). When my parents took her for two weeks last year, I felt incredibly guilty, the entire time. And as we were getting ready for her trip to the beach this year, I kept waiting [...]
