to-do-list.jpgI am a to-do list junkie. There, I’ve said it.

I write my to-do list every night for the following day and more often than not I actually re-write it at some point during the day. I am also a neat-freak, which means that if the list is getting messy — because things keep getting added to it, crossed off, written diagonally to fit them in — I am going to re-write it. (Yes, I am a little like Monk. OK, more than a little.) My to-do list is one of my key productivity tools and I am constantly trying to tweak it to make it work better. I wrote about one idea here and love this post from Zen Habits about actually using your to-do list to get things done.

So I got an idea this weekend to actually share my to-do list with all of you and to ask you to do the same. I am not exactly sure how this will be helpful, but I think it can be. (It will at least make for some fun perusing, since admit it, it’s a sneak peak into a life of a fellow busy working mom.) And then just as I was thinking about posting my list, I came across this post from Carmen, over at Mom to the screaming masses. Her list made mine look easy in comparison, which was awesome, since I was feeling overwhelmed. And that further indicated to me that this is a good idea for all of us to do.

So here it is, my to-do list for tomorrow. (Note, some names have been changed to protect the confidentiality of companies and individuals. Mostly because I’ve always wanted to be a reporter and write that. And some really really boring details have been left off.)

Work:

  • Update site features on homepage
  • Send list of bugs to tech team, open appropriate tickets
  • Finish contract for new contributor, email
  • Fill out online app and join MIT Enterprise Forum
  • Email SEO team to find out status of press release we submitted for optimization
  • If ready, get press release out through PR Web
  • Choose the next contest to run on WIM and pick date to start
  • Write blog post re marketing a site
  • Write post for Huff Post on stereotypes of women in business (?)
  • Review monthly financials and payments
  • Review spec for Marketplace, pricing
  • Write out development priorities for next 3 months and schedule
  • Prep guest blog post for Tues
  • Review Google adwords and conversions
  • Check conference schedule for spring/summer

Personal:

  • Go to Home Depot and pick out carpet for basement
  • With my daughter make card for mother-in-law
  • Go to Pilates class
  • Cook 2 meals for Tues, Wed (turkey burgers, tuna pasta, tomato soup, rice and veggies)
  • Make banana bread from “mommy these have black spots and I won’t eat them” bananas
  • Pay bills
  • Check upcoming birthdays, make list of presents/cards to get

OK, your turn. No, really, do it. You don’t have to post the full list, but typing it up might help you get organized. It helped me just now.

My husband makes out a list every Sunday of things we need to accomplish for the week (his priorities), then asks me to handle a couple of them. I transfer those to my list.

Here’s mine–this does not include anything for work:
    1. Call BC/BS for cert of ins. (from my husband)
    2. Go to resale shop to find some seriously good bargains
    3. Cut out site word flash cards for Logan
    4. Return library books
    5. Finish Beth Moore homework for the week-I’m so behind!
    6. Pick up laundry soap and hair care products and eucerin q10
    7. Call Mrs. M to see if she wants me to work in her class on Thursday
    8. Schedule Con. Ed. credits.
