Director Kruti Majmudar’s debut film, “The Memsahib,” is a powerful love story set in colonial India. Shot on location in Gujarat, the vibrant settings draw you in, giving you a glimpse into the mesh of cultures that are such a part of this exotic country. A British schoolteacher, torn between her love for her Indian prince husband and her devotion to teaching at a local town well; through her we explore the idea of destiny and how it affects our lives and loves. A talented cast and powerful writing make this gorgeous movie and inspirational must-see.

$17 at The Memsahib Movie.

Food and Cooking: Any’tizers Stuffed Minis

Though Tyson’s Any’tizers are billed as easy hors d’oeuvers, my kids liked the swiss cheese, ham, and sauce-stuffed chicken Cordon Bleu bites for lunch. They’re easy to prepare (just heat and eat), but they taste like you’re sitting in your favorite flair-filled family restaurant.

About $4 for a box of 10 pieces, available at most supermarkets.

Cooking: Chop2Pot Cutting Board

You know how annoying it is to have half of your vegetables drop all over your stove and counter top as you try to put them into the soup you’re making? (Not that it’s happened to me or anything…) Here’s an awesome, inventive cutting board that will prevent this: When you squeeze the handle, it folds into a chute, making it easy to not make a mess.

If you like shopping stores like Home Goods, you’re going to flip when you check out Home Decorator’s Outlet online! They carry all of the fancy stuff you love, at cut-rate prices.

That link right there will give you $30 off your $150+ order, automatically. Savings on top of savings. That’s my favorite kind!

They’ve got it all—furniture, hand-tufted wool rugs, wall decor, lighting, etc. If you’re looking for it for your home, they probably have it. And at a greatly reduced rate.

I would tell you how many things in my house are from there, but I’m going to have to plead the 5th. Let’s just say that I’ve never been disappointed.

One of my favorite ways to dress up an outfit is with a bright, colorful scarf, like this one from Anthropologie. (It’s also a way I keep warm in my over-air-conditioned office during the summer.)

Health and Beauty: Glop & Glam hair-styling products

Glop & Glam is the first line of hair-styling products made specifically for kids, tweens, and teens — but, I have to admit, I like them for my own poufy do, too. My preschooler loves the Creamsicle Mist leave-in conditioner and detangler; we spritz a little on her coarse tangles every morning (”Mama! It smells like orange lollipops!”) and the comb practically glides through her tight curls. The products are all paraben-, alcohol-, and formaldehyde-free, and the entire line — which includes such treats as Watermelon Hard Candy gel and Hair Glam Chocolate Controller — smells delicious.

Detangler, $14.50, at Glop and Glam.

Home Style: Wire Fruit Bowl

I’m a sucker for unique vases and containers because they make our kitchen and living areas look pretty while also being useful. This Fruit Bowl is made from a single piece of steel wire which I think is kind of neat.

These reusable, oven-safe cups make cupcakes even more fun — perfect for a kid’s birthday party. They’re made of flexible silicone, so baked goods pop out easily; the wacky little feet make them great for all kinds of cupcake projects (take a look at some of the ideas at Wilton.com).

Great Deal: Stock up on Kashi

If you’re doing battle with the High Fructose Corn Syrup Monster (so many of us are, nowadays), you—like me—have probably deduced that Kashi makes a plethora of HFCS-free cereals and snack bars your kids will actually eat. I pink puffy heart Kashi (the company; their original brand-named cereal is probably my least favorite thing they make).

Anyway, right now at Amazon, you can save big on eligible Kashi products, because many of them are already on sale, then you can use coupon code KASHNTRL to save another 25%, plus if you buy via Subscribe & Save you’ll save another 15% and get free shipping. (You can always cancel your subscription later.)

It’s a great way to stock up on the wholesome cereals and snacks your family loves, without paying health food store prices. (Because, yes, the Honey Sunshine does taste just like Cap’n Crunch. Your kids will thank you.)
