Kid Stuff: Mini and Maxi Kick Scooters

Most standard scoooters are either too clunky or too hard for little kids to balance on or steer. Mirco-Mobility has create two versions that are perfect for kids, with three sturdy wheels and an ultra-responsive lean-and-steer system. They’re perfect for parents, too — the steering shaft simply snaps into place, no screws or tools required. Their Kick Scooters come in two sizes, Mini (for 3- to 5-year-olds, $74.99, with traditional T-bar handles) and Maxi (6- to 10-year-olds, $149.99, with a joystick-like handle) and in a range of bright colors. They’re lightweight but sturdy, and when you’re riding, you feel like you’re gliding on air.  If you’re tired of strapping several bicycles to the back of your car — or if your kids still can’t manage without training wheels, but think they’re too babyish for words – these scooters make an excellent alternative.

$74.99 (Mini) and $149.99 (Maxi) at KickboardUSA.com.

A favorite soft hoodie is a must for the cold winter months, at least in my book. This one is made from a mix of wool and cashmere, which means it’s definitely warm and definitely soft.

Great Deal: Black Friday week at Amazon

Maybe fighting the crowds in the wee hours on Black Friday is your kind of sport, but to me, I can think of little more distasteful. I mean, I’m all about the deal, but not if it involves muscling my way through crazy people.

That’s why I’m currently composing sappy love songs to my favorite Bargain Beau, because Amazon is offering Black Friday deals all week long, including a crop of positively insane Lightning Deals.

You may not have the time to sit there refreshing the deals all day, but given that you could pop in for a minute here or there, don’t have to be dressed, and will never have to brave the crowds, I think this classifies as a pretty great deal.

Food and Cooking: Immaculate Baking Co. Cookie Dough

I’m usually not a fan of pre-made anything, but having a slab of ready-to-go cookie dough waiting in the fridge or freezer helps me go from tired working mom to terrific working mom in a flash, as far as my kids and their buddies are concerned. Immaculate Baking Co.’s products are all natural, with no trans fat and no artificial ingredients; a 14-ounce slab makes 24 good-size cookies. If you time it right, you might be able to snag a couple of vanilla sugar (or chocolate chunk, cranberry oatmeal white chocolate, oatmeal raisin, or triple chocolate) beauties before your kids eat them all.

$2.99 to $4.99 at many grocery stores and online at ImmaculateBaking.com.

Travel experts always warn women to be wary of purse theives who “cut and run” — that is, use a razor or a knife to slice through the strap of your bag before grabbing it. Travelon’s Carry Safe bags have a hidden chain-link construction, a cut-proof adjustable strap that conntects to the bag with a sturdy metal loop, and locking zippers to keep the contents secure.
