Looking for the perfect family and/or party game, but don’t want to pay big bucks? Stuck for a gift for a Yankee Swap or that relative you don’t know all that well? Run on over to Kohls today for their big sale; in addition to all of their other deals, they’ve got the Apples To Apples Party Box for just $17. This is one of my family’s very favorite games! And that’s already a deal, but we can do better than that by stacking the savings.

Shipping is free on your $50+ order (maybe you need a few), or Kohls Charge Card holders can use coupon code XMASFREE for free shipping on any size order. And everyone can apply coupon code SECRETSANTA for an additional 20% off, bringing the cost of the game down to around $14. (For comparison: It’s currently marked down at Amazon to $18, and the regular price is closer to $25.)

But it for your own family; buy it for a gift; just don’t miss out on this great deal.

Great Deal: Just Dance into the new year!

Vowing to get fit in the new year? Nobody ever said you had to do it by pedaling yourself into death-by-boredom or by hitting a bootcamp every morning with people who think bench-pressing small cars is entertainment. You could… dance your way to better health, and have a great time doing it.

And right now it’s cheaper than it’s been in a while. If you have a Wii, pick up Just Dance and/or Just Dance 2 for just $30 apiece from Amazon right now. These highly-rated UBI Soft games are just plain fun (even while working up a sweat) and they don’t require a dance mat, either.

Grab one or grab both. They’re particularly good if you have kids who want to play along—I find a jeering tween to be excellent motivation, myself.

I remember playing with Magnetic Poetry on the fridge during college and how in an odd way, it really did inspire some creativity. This Word Kit for kids is a fun way to encourage them to get creative with words without worrying about the risk of inappropriate words sneaking in.

Have this on hand, and when the first snow falls, you’ll be ready for action. Mold precise blocks of snow for building forts, and then fill the forts with perfectly shaped snowballs made with the special scoop. And you can do it all without soaking your mittens in the first minute and a half of fun.

In a constant effort to find new and fun arts and crafts ideas for my six year-old kiddo, I stumbled upon this sewing kit. It’s a great starter kit from which kids can make felt animals and notebook covers and I think can make a great holiday gift. (Did I just think of holiday gifts in early November? Someone help me.)

Turn any hard surface — the dining table, the kitchen floor, and especially the hallway — into an awesome place to play air hockey with Hover Hockey from Sportscraft. Unlike traditional air hockey, which requires a special table on which to play, Hover Hockey packs the air into the puck, allowing any flat spot to be used for a game. The set comes with two hover pucks, a charger, two felt-bottomed pushers, and four orange cones.

Family Fun: Djubi

Djubi (pronounced JU-bee) is part lacrosse, part slingshot, and a whole lot of fun. On a recent sun-filled Saturday, I grabbed this throw-and-catch game and headed outside with my husband and our youngest kids. Mr. 3-year-old boy couldn’t quite get the hang of it and happily kicked a soccer ball around instead, but Ms. 6-year-old girl figured out the slingshot-like aspect of it quickly, and was sending the ball skyward in no time. The balls (which don’t really bounce, but do float, making this game perfect for the beach) have an elastic loop attached — you hook the loop onto the edge of the hand-held net, pull it back, and let it fly while the other player races to catch it. The set comes with two nets and two balls; additional balls are available.
