Food and cooking: Measuring cups

Categories: Food and Cooking

I did some baking this weekend and realized that I’m missing more measuring cups and spoons than I thought. Three kids and one husband who like to use them outside for various reasons means that invariably, they don’t all make it back inside. I like this set and for this price, I don’t mind so much if we end up losing a couple of these ones, too.

The perfect tea mug

I was given one of David’s Tea’s “perfect tea mugs” and I have to say that I kind of love it. It was my first time trying loose-leaf tea and being a drinker of the brands that have been around forever (Tetley, etc.), I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I did, and I do. Now I know what I’ll be buying for at least two people on my Christmas list.

Food and cooking: Egg Timer

My husband and I bought fifty baby chicks last spring as part of our bid to be more sustainable. Approximately half of those chicks are now full-grown hens and they’ve started laying eggs. While my family already went through a decent amount of eggs, I’ve been making egg dishes more often. I’ve realized that we don’t have an egg timer and one sure would come in handy. This stainless steel one would fit nicely with our decor.

Leave it to Oneida to have a big summer clearance sale, even though it’s not exactly as though kitchenware is seasonal. (Not that we’re complaining, mind you.) Right now there’s hundreds of items marked way down, from fancy cookware to steak knives to kids’ cooking sets. I may finally pick up that pizza stone I’ve been wanting, because at $7.99, why not?

Shipping is free on your $99+ order, or just a flat $2.99 if you spend less. Don’t forget to add coupon code TTE10 to your order for an additional 10% off, too. That’s a great deal!

Our old, faithful toaster oven gave up on us last week. It still works, but the door is broken and we need to prop something heavy in front of it to keep it closed. My handy husband tells me that he cannot repair it, so I’m on the hunt for a new one. This Black & Decker one has the same features as our current one and fits within our budget.

Food and cooking: Le Creuset grill pan

I was given a Le Crueset grill pan as a gift last week and until then had never known they even existed. I used it to grill some halibut for fish tacos and it cooked them perfectly. It’s a great piece to own for those nights where you don’t want to fire up the barbecue. Plus, it cleans like a dream.

Food and cooking: Wine saver

Summer is in full swing and with it, backyard barbecues. The common answer around here when asking what one can bring is “wine.” While using the cork to stop the flow of wine works, getting it back out can sometimes be tricky. Having a wine saver on hand not only stops the wine from flowing and keeps it fresh, it is uch easier to remove when it’s time to pour that next glass of wine.

Summer drinks: Fruit-infused pitcher

Summer is FINALLY here and my family and I have started eating outside. I am a huge tea drinker, and when the weather gets hotter I tend to switch to iced teas. I’ve been branching out beyond orange pekoe and green tea, and this pitcher is a perfect way to infuse your tea with fruit or citrus or herbs. And, if you’re not a tea fan, you can use it to make sangria.

Food and cooking: Cake plates

My kids have been talking about which friends they want to invite to their next birthday (the next birthday I have to host is three months away, but that’s how kids roll) and we’ve also talked about what kind of cake they want me to make for them. This got me searching for a cake stand because while my usual trick of putting in on a dinner plate and then wrapping the leftover cake in tin foil works, it’s a little messy and definitely not pretty. I had a hard time finding one that wasn’t overly girly (I have two boys and one girl) and I think that this one will do.
