Great Deal: The early bird gets the discount patio furniture

Categories: Great Deal, Home Style

While I’m always a sucker for the Target Daily Deals—one-day discounts on various items, plus free shipping—today I’m really digging ‘em, because they’ve extended the deals to an entire category. For one day only, they’re offering free shipping and an extra 10% off any one Home sale item. The free shipping alone is a huge perk (furniture is heavy!), but today they’ve also got most of their patio furniture marked up to 40% off, so altogether you’re looking at huge savings if you’re willing to plan ahead.

Can you see past the snow and imagine those lazy Summer days, lounging out back on the furniture you were smart enough to buy on the cheap in January? I can!

Serving dishes: Lazy susan

The holidays are coming and with that comes the dinners and the entertaining. If there’s one thing I love as much as cooking (and eating) good food, it’s serving said food in great vessels. A client gave me a ceramic lazy susan with removable dishes and as soon as I saw it, I wondered how I had hosted so many parties without one.

Home Style: Bedding

After four years of sleeping on a mattress…on the floor, my husband has almost completed the bed he’s building for us. He’s instructed me to buy new bedding and it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be. The bed is a solid, chunky style, stained a dark brown, so I want bedding that goes well with it. I’ve been envisioning red and brown together but so far, everything I’ve seen with that color combo is polyester and we want cotton. My husband found this set and while it’s not exactly what I had in mind, I kind of like it.

Poster: Hope For Japan

My friend Kerri linked to these posters from JoJo Studios. They are absolutely beautiful and all proceeds go to Red Cross relief efforts in Japan. A great way to both help the efforts in Japan and buy something pretty for your wall.

Home Style: Pottery Barn table runner

My husband made (yes, made) us a brand new kitchen table to replace oval oak table from the seventies that we inherited from his parents when we got married. The new table is rectangular, sturdy, and stained a dark brown - it looks much like the table in the photo, except with a bit more texture to it. The top coat has to cure for a few weeks until we can use it in every day life, so I’ve been spending my time looking for a table runner that will look good on its 8′ length. I think this one from Pottery Barn is the ticket.

Home Style: Bamboo dry erase board

I’ve been looking for an alternative to the chalk board we have hanging in our kitchen (it’s handy, but messy) and when I saw this dry erase board from CB2 I feel in like with it immediately. It’s made of bamboo, is eco-friendly, wipes off easily and can hang either vertically or horizontally. Our house is full of wood (floors, wainscoting, etc.) and it will fit in perfectly with our decor. It’s on my “to buy” list, for sure.

Home Style: Archipelago Botanicals Diffusers

I have to confess that I really dislike the smell of most diffusers and prefer the house to be filled with the smell of fresh flowers or baked cookies. But ever since I discovered Archipelago Botanicals diffusers I’ve been a complete convert. The scents are subtle yet they are there and they do last a while. My favorite is Mango Tangerine, in case you’re curious.

My love for (costume) jewelry knows no bounds and after receiving a few more pieces for Christmas, I’ve realized that while placing them in ceramic bowls on my dresser is all fine and good, I want something prettier to display my wares. While snooping around on Amazon I found this jewelry box and tree by Umbra that I’ve place on my birthday list (it’s in a few weeks).

Be Green: Poo-Pourri

If you’re trying to reduce the number of chemicals you use at home, that bathroom deodorizer spray has to go. Poo-Pourri Little Stinker spray uses a blend of Bergamot, lemongrass, and grapefruit essential oils, which are naturally anti-bacterial and smell great — and a little goes a very long way. The spray was designed to eliminate the smell of dirty diapers in the pail or garbage, but it’s perfect for use in the bathroom for those who have already been potty trained.

$12.95 for a 2-ounce bottle, $19.95 for 4 ounces, at poopourri.com.
