Food storage: Stainless steel lunch box

Categories: Kid Stuff, Work Happy

A friend threw out the question on Facebook last week to see if any of us knew where to buy stainless steel lunch containers. Her oldest child starts Kindergarten this fall and she doesn’t want to use plastic. We use plastic, for both our kids and our own lunches but I’m thinking that we should switch to stainless steel. There are a lot of options out there and these LunchBots look like they’ll be perfect for the entire family.

Kid Stuff: Camp cards

My eldest son is going to sleep away camp for the first time this summer and I’m doing my best not to worry about it. He’ll be fine, I’m sure, but the thought of my eight-year-old staying two hours away makes me teary and he’s not even gone yet. I’m sure he’ll be too busy having fun to bother writing home, which is why I think these cards from Oh My Word are perfect. A little cheeky, yes, but it’s my kind of humor.

My kids’ lunch bags are not my favorite. They are insulated, yes, but then I have to cram five different containers of five different parts of their lunch inside. I went looking for a better option and I found these Goodbyn lunch containers. I think I might even order one for myself.

Kid Stuff: Wooden Teethers

Full disclosure: Amy from Little Alouette is a friend. That said, I have been a little bit sad that I couldn’t support her store for wooden teethers because my “baby” is almost five. But! I have friends who have had/are having babies and I went a little bit wild this weekend ordering an array of teethers.

In the world of gadgets and gizmos and DVD’s for helping your child learn the alphabet and then, to read, sometimes it’s nice to kick it old school and invest in some flash cards. I have this set of alphabet flash cards from Secret Agent Josephine. All three of my kids love the illustrations and we’ve spent much time going through all of the letters.

I am in search of a few more last-minute Hanuka gifts and a friend sent me a link to the Little Wonder Company, where you can create a personalized book for your kiddo. Every book they produce has a main character which you can customize to resemble your child — indicate face shape, skin and hair color, etc. Think of how excited your son or daughter will be to appear as the main character in a real book!

Playmobil’s new twist on an old tradition ratchets down the candy consumption but dials up the imaginative fun. Their advent calendars are filled with tiny toys, and the calendar itself turns into the stage upon which to play with them. Choose from several themes — classic nativity and winter forest scenes, but also police, dragon land, pony ranch, and unicorn-and-fairy sets — and get ready to count down to Christmas.

I’m always on the lookout for great arts and crafts stuff to inspire my kiddo to do more art. Sure, a big blank piece of paper and some fun markers go pretty far, but I find that she is always up for some new ideas. This Blank Comix kit comes with a set of 4 8-page books that inspire kids to illustrate (and write) any type of story, including a traditional comic.
