Food and cooking: Wine saver

Categories: Food and Cooking, Mom's Must Haves

Summer is in full swing and with it, backyard barbecues. The common answer around here when asking what one can bring is “wine.” While using the cork to stop the flow of wine works, getting it back out can sometimes be tricky. Having a wine saver on hand not only stops the wine from flowing and keeps it fresh, it is uch easier to remove when it’s time to pour that next glass of wine.

Travel Gear: Notebook backpack

I fly a few times a year, it seems, for blog conferences or work trips or vacations. Every time I fly, I bring a backpack as my carry on and pack it with the things I couldn’t live without should my suitcase be lost. Makeup, a change of clothes, my jewelry and my laptop. I just use my (totally cheap and flimsy) backpack but my husband wants me to buy a backpack that’s built for laptops because, well, Macbooks aren’t cheap. I think I’ve found the one for me on Amazon.

Mom’s must have’s: Wallet/iPhone case

I don’t know about you, but I happen to carry a pretty substantial purse that holds everything from my wallet to my camera (and a second lens and some memory cards) to a small notebook for, well, notes. Then there’s also the barrettes my daughter decides she doesn’t want to wear anymore and the feminine hygiene products I needed last week and, well. My purse is pretty heavy. When I run into the store I will often just grab my wallet and my phone but holding them both in one hand can be awkward.  After dropping my phone once before and having the screen shatter, I am a little wary. These adorable wallet sleeves are exactly what I need.

Must have: Travel tea tumbler

I grew up drinking Orange Pekoe tea (my Grandpa was English and instilled that tradition in my Mom) and I spent much of my life drinking a cup of tea in the morning. Somehow, some way, that morning tradition switched to coffee. Then, about six weeks ago, my stomach was “off” and I switched to green tea. I’m not saying that I’ll never drink coffee again but I’m loving the tea train. A coworker has been schooling me in loose teas and infusers and a mug such as this one is in my (very) new future.

Lunch container: Goodbyn

My kids’ lunch bags are not my favorite. They are insulated, yes, but then I have to cram five different containers of five different parts of their lunch inside. I went looking for a better option and I found these Goodbyn lunch containers. I think I might even order one for myself.

Technology: e-Reader cover with light

I went into our office lunch room last week and saw that a coworker was reading from her Sony Reader that we all got as work Christmas presents. It was held in a red cover, in a pretty burgundy shade. I’d never even thought about getting a cover for mine. I went looking for covers and saw that there were options that have a built-in light. Practicality won over pretty. A cover with a light will come in so handy and let me read in many more locations.

Mom’s Must Haves: Family Tree Necklace

I’ve been wanting to get some kind of jewelry to represent my family and while a ring full of each family member’s birthstone is traditional and great and awesome, and I may just get one some day…I am not much of a ring wearer. I wear my engagement ring and wedding band and that’s it when it comes to rings. Necklaces, however, are my thing.

This Family Tree Necklace is on my etsy wish list and pinned on Pinterest. I love it.

Great Deal: Colgate Wisps for freshness on the go

Face it; there are times when you can’t get to a sink with your toothbrush, and even some mouthwash or gum just doesn’t quite do the job. Enter Colgate Wisps, the tiny, one-time-use mini toothbrushes that allow you to brush and dispose, anywhere. It’s a great idea, but they’re pretty pricey—32 of them will run you about $16 on Amazon.

But today’s your lucky day! Over at Woot they’re offering 48-packs of Wisps for just $5! Sure, you have to pay another $5 in shipping, but it’s still a bargain at $10, plus you can get up to three packs for that $5 shipping charge, making it an even better buy. Put some in your purse, in the car, in the kids’ backpacks… you’ll find lots of ways to be grateful you have a Wisp on hand, especially when it’s such a great deal.
