Outdoor Fun: A new ski jacket

Categories: General

My family and I took up skiing last year, and while the ski jacket and pants I have were fully functional, they are also ten years old and a little outdated. Also, the blue-with-a-dash-of-white motif makes me look somewhat Smurf-like. My husband agreed, so last night we went on eBay and ordered me a pretty grey jacket to go with the black ski pants I plan on buying this week. The one I bought is from last season, but this one is also from Columbia and is very similar.

I have an affinity for (dresses, and) necklaces. A few years ago a friend hosted a party where all of the jewelry sold was made by women in Nepal, and all of the proceeds from the sales were shipped back to the women who made the jewelry. Ever since then, I have bought the majority of my jewelry from organizations who support women trying to support themselves in a struggling country.

Waterproof case for the iPad 2

I have drinking an entire batch of the Apple Kool Aid and own a Macbook, an iPhone, and an iPad 2. I use the iPad mostly for reading, but do have an external keyboard for it so that I can use it as a mini-laptop when I don’t want to lug around the big laptop. I’ve used it to read magazines and books while relaxing in a bubble bath, but after hearing a friend’s story about dropping her iPhone in the toilet (and killing it deader than dead) I’ve stopped using it in the tub. If I get myself this handy-dandy waterproof case, I can have unlimited bathtime reading options again.

We’re trying to rid our home of plastic storage containers, and a friend showed me the lunch kits she uses for her kids. No plastic, and cute to boot.

Think green for spring

Spring is not quite here yet, but the styles are out. The word for fashion is COLOR and if there is anything that can brighten up my mood in a dreary February, it’s a new dress to remind me that spring is coming.

Outdoor fun: Ski socks

My family and I spent all of last week skiing, and while we were good at buying all of the required outerwear and gear (skis, boots, helmets, etc.), one thing we didn’t think about was good socks. It took all of an hour up at the hill for my kids (and me) to realize that our regular socks would not do. I went in to the ski shop, bought us all proper socks, and everyone was much happier.

Summer must-have: Beach tote

Categories: General

My family and I live in a desert climate. When summer hits, we spend as much time at the beach as we can so that the lake water can cool our body temperature down to a (somewhat) reasonable level. Daily beach time means that a decent beach tote is a necessity, and we have two (TWO) from Lands End that we’ve had in use for four summers now. They are a must-have, in my opinion.

Fashion: Metal bead necklace

I wear a lot of neutral colors (I love brown) and I had a beautiful necklace that I wore almost every day until a few weeks ago when, while jumping up and down during a hockey game, the string snapped and the beads flew off in every direction. I’ve been on the lookout for a new necklace and then a friend linked to one of her favorite Etsy shops and now I think I’m in love.

My brother gets married four weeks from tomorrow (!) and I am, of course, wanting to buy a new dress. I’m not sure is Mr. Budget Lockdown will let me, especially since I have a closet full of pretty dresses. But this one is purple! And has the neckline that flatters me! And is just so PRETTY. I’ll work on him.

Our very own Susan has written a few different posts on shorts and how to wear them, so I thought I’d see what Old Navy had in the way of Bermuda shorts. And, lo! Their shorts are on sale! I think I like these cargo shorts that Susan highlighted in today’s post the best for my body type.
