Committed: The Ties that Bond
with Angella Dykstra
I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.
Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.
I distinctly remember the first year of marriage in which I would often glance at my husband and be stopped in my tracks.
I am married. I have a husband. I am a WIFE.
Whoa.
Over the years those (near daily) moments became fewer and further between. The more common moments of revelation seem to be when I am driving my kids around. I will look in the rear-view mirror and see these three insanely unique human beings and be smacked in the face with their sheer awesomeness.
I will blink. And have to fight the urge to pull over while I grapple with the revelation that hits me.
I have three kids. I am a MOM (Who drives a MINIVAN).
Whoa.
Last night at dinner the kids brought up our marriage as they often do and one of them asked us how long we had been married. We told them that next year would be ten years. TEN YEARS.
Whoa.
I so often feel like the awkward, insecure girl who just graduated from high school. Yet, here I am. A Woman. A Mother. A Wife.
Sometimes I can’t believe it.

Isn’t it crazy how life gives us such a perspective? I look at my son every day and I’m so grateful for what he’s made me, the same goes for my fiance. Without those two I would be a completely different person!

Dude. Me too. ’tis mind boggling sometimes.
I sometimes get thoughts of THERE’S NO GOING BACK! ACK! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?! But they (usually) go away.

At the ripe old age of 28 I have been married for nearly 7 years, together for 11. Every time someone asks how long we’ve been together I have to stop and think and say “OMG, xx years. And now we have a kid. OMG.” I am amazed and in love with my life more everyday. I believe it’s the people we choose to bring into our lives that make it so worth living.

I just got married last year at age 32 & am still kind of surprised on a regular basis that I’m a wife!
