Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

Sometimes marriage isn’t easy

Sometimes marriage isn’t easy.

Sometimes you mention that you “feel bloated” and your husband confirms that, indeed, you look bloated.

Sometimes you get tired of seeing him place his dirty dishes on top of the dishwasher (instead of inside the dishwasher).

Sometimes he gets tired of the amount of clothes that you pile on that chair in your room (instead of either hanging them up or putting them in the laundry basket).

Sometimes you wish he could be a little more social and want to spend more time with your mutual friends.

Sometimes he wishes you could be a little less social and cannot fathom how instead of draining you, interacting with others actually energizes you.

Sometimes you can’t agree on the best course of action when it comes to raising your children in the way they should go. You both want the best, but don’t quite agree on how to get there.

Sometimes you both try to communicate but it seems as though some alien forces have taken over the airwaves and what comes out of your mouths sounds like something resembling Klingon.

Sometimes marriage is hard.

But sometimes you realize that anything this good is worth working at. Worth fighting for. Just plain worth it.

  • Sometimes you don’t get along as well as you did when you first got married.

  • Echoing here ;-)

During the first few blissful years I used to wonder why are these other couples having issues.. Now I know ;-)

But like you said, it is worth it!!

  • Marriage is definitely not easy, i was reading somewhere lately, and it said- To get married you need to love the person.. to keep up the marriage you need to be in love!
And it makes sense, it definitely is hard to make the marriage work, but its so worth it. It takes two to tango and two to make it worth the lives spend together!
