Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

What little things do you like about your spouse?

Categories: love, marriage

Sometimes it’s so much easier to focus on/notice the large similarities and differences between you and your spouse. You (we) have (some) different interests and hobbies yet share the same faith and values and love of children. The two of us are pretty balanced. Not perfect, not even close, but perfectly matched. Or so we believe.

The other day my husband made this scrunched up face that he makes when he’s thinking and I thought, “I love that face.” I started thinking about what other little things about him that I find endearing and it didn’t take long to compile a list. Here are a few:

His butt. It’s quite lovely.

His sense of humor - he can get me laughing pretty quickly with his dry wit.

His lips. They’re soft. And full. And give nice kisses.

His ability to laugh at himself when he knows he’s being ridiculous.

The little innuendos that he will fire at me (and I at him) while our kids have no idea what we’re laughing about. (Don’t worry, I won’t share any of them. We all know how touchy some of you are about *stage whisper* S-E-X.)

His eyes are the coolest shade of ice blue that you e’er did see.

How about you guys? What little things do you like about your spouse?

  • Innuendo that flies over kids’ heads is the BEST. You gotta have SOME fun while they’re awake, right?

The little things … that’s a hard one. I’ll get back to you on that.

  • when my husband is focussing on task at hand type things around the house and is debating which way to do something he puts his hand on his hip like the teapot song, and asks for my input and I always laugh because it’s just so dang cute. He also tracks fuel economy for some reason….it’s not like we do anything with the info; he just likes to know how many miles to the gallon he is getting. LOVE.

  • he’s much more patient than I am which means that he makes killer grilled cheese sandwiches (I always turn the heat up way too high and burn the bread while the cheese is still non-melty)
