Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

What are you getting your spouse for Christmas?

Thanksgiving has come and gone, as has Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Everywhere I look (and read), people have been snapping up presents for their significant other. Me too!

Um, no, not really. Though I do have a few ideas (he needs a new wallet and a watch and…maybe some underwear? DEFINITELY some underwear).

He keeps asking me what I want and my list is pretty small. An external keyboard for my (new) iPad 2, some new workout DVD’s and workout clothes, and…maybe some peripheral camera gear.

Back before we had kids we’d set a pretty decent budget for each other but we were DINKS (Heh) and now we’ve been trying to be smarter with our money. We also have a lot of “stuff” and would rather spend money on good experiences and memories.

(Sorry to get all deep there. We still like presents! Who DOESN’T?)

What are you getting each other for Christmas/Hannukah/The Holidays?

  • We’re getting each other experiences and memories for Christmas! We’re going on a big trip.

That said, he could benefit from all of the things your husband can benefit from. I might throw some items in the suitcase.

That said, I am Christmas baby and I have made the point that my birthday is NOT Christmas and I would like to have a birthday and a gift, thankyouverymuch.

  • I picked up a few things already (a zip up fleece jacket and a Princess Bride board game!) but am feeling rather cluelss about any other items. I’m sure something will come to me in the next few weeks. He already ordered my gift and asked if he could hide it in the attic… which has me scratching my head. I love a good surprise but I’m wondering if the item is large enough he needs to store it in the attic to hide it or if it’s small and he is trying to throw me off his trail. Only time will tell. :)
