Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

When was your first kiss?

You have probably seen that “first kiss” video online but if you haven’t, here you go.

While my husband and I didn’t have “special time” until we were married, kissing happened long before that date. I have no idea how you could not kiss, but that video reminded me of a couple who had made the same “no kissing” vow, but would nuzzle and kiss cheeks and make me wonder WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WAS. I’d prefer if they’d just given a quick kiss rather than subjecting me to all of their pent-up frustrations.

I still remember our first kiss. We’d been dating for a week or so, and spent most of our time together cuddling on the couch while watching TV/movies, when we weren’t talking until 3 a.m. He was shy and I wasn’t stupid, so I finally just leaned in. It was awesome, and still is. He has the best lips.

  • Oh my gosh, that kiss on the video! I think maybe they should have practiced beforehand, because yep… definitely doing it wrong. :)

  • I saw that video a couple days ago and … I can’t bring myself to watch it again. SO FREAKING AWKWARD. My first kiss was NOT that awkward. I was 14 and it was my first boyfriend and it was his first kiss, too. We were watching Star Wars with friends of ours. How romantic, right?

My first kiss with Noah happened in my car as I was dropping him off at his parents’ place after our first sort-of date. I don’t remember much about it, but it couldn’t’ have been too bad because I hung out with him the very next day. :)

  • Haha, I saw that video the other day (along with most of the world) and almost dry retched!! Hideous!

Um, our first kiss was on the night we started “dating” (ie. the night we told each other that we had feelings for each other).

  • Oh, meant to say that when I was talking about our first kiss, I meant mine and Rob’s. But that wasn’t either of our “first” kisses. My first was when I was 13, and my boyfriend at the time was 14. We may not have kissed anyone before, but we totally knew how to do it. And we didn’t chew each other’s faces off.
