Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

Are you and/or your spouse “gamers”?

My husband is a bit of an anomaly among many of his friends in that he’s not really into video games. He never has been. He’d much rather play basketball or work out or go hunting/fishing/hiking/skiing/snomobiling/anything OUTSIDE. As for me, I didn’t grow up as much of a gamer, either. I did hop on the Angry Birds train when it first came out, but if I have a few spare moments I’d rather play Scrabble/Words With Friends/Lexulous.

That is, until this past weekend when I was introduced to Draw Something. Every spare moment for the rest of the weekend (and last night) was spent playing this game. Have you heard of it, or played it? You get to challenge friends and watch their drawing in real time. You first get to see your (horrible) drawing played back in real time, and in between the two, I laughed more this weekend than I have in a long time. My husband has taken to standing over my shoulder and guessing/laughing at my drawing attempts. I’m pretty sure he’ll download it before the week is out.

As for non-video games, we play a lot of Monopoly/Uno/Scrabble as a family. Board and card games are a huge hit with the kids now that they’re all school aged.

How about you? Are you and your man/woman into video games? Or board/card games?
